TOTO India’s Vision for Sustainable Luxury — In Conversation with Shiozawa Kazuyuki

Dialogue with Bath Affair

Luxury today is not just about how a product looks — it’s about how it performs, how it feels, and how responsibly it’s made. Few brands embody this philosophy as seamlessly as TOTO, and at the helm of TOTO India is Mr. Shiozawa Kazuyuki, a leader whose career spans continents and cultures. In this episode of Dialogue with Bath Affair, Sanjay Arora sits down with Mr. Shiozawa to talk about his journey, TOTO’s growth story in India, and why the future of bathrooms is deeply intertwined with sustainability and innovation.

From Japan to India — A Global Journey

Mr. Shiozawa began his career with TOTO in 1996, spending 13 years in Japan mastering the company’s commitment to precision and quality. His leadership journey took him through markets in the Middle East, Russia, and Vietnam, each adding a new layer of cultural insight.

Since 2022, he has been leading TOTO India with a clear mission: to expand the brand’s presence while introducing the Indian market to products that marry elegance, technology, and environmental responsibility. Beyond work, his love for travel mirrors TOTO’s own spirit — open to new perspectives, constantly learning, and always evolving.

The Halol Hub — Made in India, Made for the World

TOTO’s manufacturing facility in Halol, Gujarat, isn’t just a production unit — it’s a statement of intent. With 80% of its workforce sourced locally, it aligns perfectly with the Make in India vision while also supporting community growth.

In the past decade, production has surged by 400%, with half a million premium products now manufactured annually for both Indian and international markets. Each innovation is guided by a principle that’s become central to TOTO’s DNA — luxury must also be sustainable.

Partnership Power — TOTO × Bath Affair

Breaking into a market as diverse and competitive as India is no small feat. In the Delhi NCR region, TOTO found an ally in Bath Affair — a partner that understands the nuances of luxury retail and the expectations of Indian clients.

From creating immersive showroom experiences to educating customers on the value of advanced bathroom technologies, Bath Affair has been instrumental in making TOTO’s innovations more accessible. Together, the brands have built trust, expanded reach, and strengthened the after-sales ecosystem.

Innovation with a Conscience

Sustainability isn’t an afterthought at TOTO — it’s an engineering challenge they’ve mastered over decades. Early models of TOTO’s toilets used 18 litres of water per flush; today, advanced models use just 3.8 litres, without sacrificing cleanliness.

In 2024, TIME Magazine recognised TOTO as one of the World’s Most Sustainable Companies, ranking it 309th globally. This achievement reflects not only global operations but also the eco-conscious practices at the Halol plant — from emission reduction to water recycling.

The Future of Bathrooms in India

India’s appetite for technology-led luxury is growing, and TOTO is ready to meet it. Signature products like NEORESTand WASHLET combine comfort, hygiene, and design in ways that are redefining the bathroom experience.

Looking ahead, TOTO is expanding deeper into Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, with an emphasis on sustainable innovation and premium design tailored for local sensibilities. Engagements with architects, curated events, and dedicated marketing content are set to keep the brand at the forefront.

Lessons in Leadership

For Mr. Shiozawa, the inspiration comes from TOTO’s founder and his vision of “providing a healthy and civilised way of life.” His advice to young professionals is simple yet profound:

“Value your time and practice kindness. Time is precious, and kindness builds trust. Stay open-minded, focus on growth, and aim to make a positive difference.”

Closing Note

At Bath Affair, we believe the future of luxury lies at the intersection of design, technology, and sustainability — values TOTO champions in every product. This conversation with Mr. Shiozawa is a reminder that true luxury enhances not just spaces, but lives.

We invite you to experience TOTO’s innovations firsthand at the Bath Affair showroom — where every detail is designed to inspire.
